Welcome from Darren Mackin, Director of Placemaking.
Dear Candidate,
Newham is at the forefront of East London’s growth. Home of the Olympic Park, London City Airport, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres, as well as a growing cultural and creative sector, Newham is anchored by the East Bank development. We are connected to Central London by an extensive transport network and have fantastic opportunities for people to live, work and visit our brilliant borough.
We are building on strong foundations but we know that we need to go further and faster in unlocking the new homes and jobs that investment brings to benefit Newham’s existing residents and businesses.
In common with other inner-city areas, our residents and businesses face many challenges. Housing supply is constrained, meaning housing costs are too high and the cost of living pressures make life difficult for many businesses and households, and not all residents are able to benefit from investment the borough has experienced.
These two roles sit at the centre of our mission to attract inward investment to build new homes and create new jobs, while strengthening our approach to working with partners to deliver the infrastructure we need.
We are looking for passionate and ambitious leaders who can work at pace, build trusted and credible relationships with our Councillors, partners and investors; and who will embrace the opportunity to shape this dynamic and evolving part of London. You will be involved in shaping some of the UK and Europe’s largest brownfield regeneration projects, as well as playing your part in Newham Council’s ongoing improvement and transformation journey.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Darren Mackin
